Cadaver-sniffing dogs locate deceased people
They are trained to detect the smell of deceased people, e.g.
under debris or water.
The location of deceased people is of great importance for relatives and friends of the victims.
Although it is terrible for everyone when someone can only be found dead, at least there is the certainty that a loved one will not be buried under the rubble.
Cadaver-sniffing dogs are called after natural disaster such as earthquakes and landslides as well as building collapses.
Our dogs are also trained in the field of water corpse search.

Operational dog teams are available for missions at any time. You therefore need the written consent of your employer in advance.
Training:
The aim of the training is to prepare the team for the mission. It is often started in the young dog age.
The training is designed by experienced trainers in a level-appropriate and goal-oriented manner. The practical training units are supplemented by the continuous imparting of theoretical knowledge. The training is of a high standard. After about two to four years of intensive training and the successful completion of an exam and two aptitude tests, a dog team is admitted to the two-day operational test, which decides on its operational capability. Operational capability is confirmed every three years. In addition, the operational teams complete an aptitude test every year.
Trainings and training locations:
There are about 50 training sessions per year, as well as operational exercises and education and training in the technical subjects.
We train in and around Lower Saxony. On weekends or day exercises, however, we are also on training grounds throughout Germany.
Cost:
The annual membership fee at ISDU is between 50 and 150 euros. You will pay for the costs/travel costs during the entire training, as well as for the costs of the necessary material (safety equipment, pharmacy, clothes).
